Abstract

The social medicine: historic movement from 1848 revolutionary Europe greatly contributed to the liberation of medicine from positivist biology clamps. More recently the Latin-American social medicine movement regain that torch and, following Foucault convinced us about the almost uselessness of Medicine. Both have been contrahegemonic movements in the prevention of the construction of a medicine held by the market. Medicine is in a crossroads: who and who will not have resources. A low cost Primary Health Care service seems to be important. Uruguay doesn't seem to care about this importance. This can be seen trough the relative child mortality rates rise related with other Latin- American and Caribbean countries.
