Abstract

This paper presents some of the results from research on adolescent fertility done at the Population Program, Social Science School, Universidad de la Republica of Uruguay. We focus on the adolescent fertility changes during the last three decades. The objective is to show how this aged group has a “not expected" reproductive behavior when one looks the county’s reproductive history. The extend this issue: achieved makes us think that we are facing a new social phenomenon adolescents are becoming a risky group regarding its reproductive health. The increase in adolescent fertility shows that the reproductive behavior is; going through important changes. This fact allows us to think that the reproduction level of the population holds itself up to the adolescent fertility.
