El suicidio en Uruguay

Abstract

This paper approaches for the Uruguayan case a classic topic of the sociology: the study of the suicide. 111 Uruguay this topic acquires a major singularity in the measure that from, at least, the decade of the sixties, high figures of suicides are observed in the Latin American context. If in a first moment it is considerated immediately the international comparison it is an explanatory model that considers a group of variables that have been associated historically to the movement of the rate of suicide. In that sense, it will be possible to observe the suicide is in our case, in the same way that in the classic studies, a masculine phenomenon and that it grows with age. Although the difference today is marked by the tendency in the approach of women and youngest rates. On the other hand the capital of the country has shown low rates traditionally, relationship that has been modified in the last years. Starting from these variables, from regional analysis and from application of models of demographic, structural variables and of social disorganization it is also debated the appearance of anomia phenomenons related with a today globalized world.
