Abstract

The osteoanthropology research in past societies has embraced several topics, and one of them, that has no yet explored exhaustivily, is child's growth studies based on skeletal remains. For our porpuoses we analized five populations samples from Formative, Clasic and Postclasic periods and from diferent Mesoamerican regions. These are Tlatilco, Edo. Mex.; Cuicuilco, D.F.; Tlajinga 33, Teotihuacan; Cholula, Pue.; y San Gregorio Atlapulco, Xochimilco, D.F. The skeletal age at death from subadults, was estimated based on the age from dental emergence and development, according to Ubelaker (1978). Then we measured the femur of each individual. We made correlation charts of the dental age and length diafiseal. The assesment of growth was made by means of the anual increase in millimeters. We conclude that the differences and similarities we found about growth among samples has a multicausality by the interaction with their genetic pool, health and nutrition conditions, as well as at the socio-historic and geographic context in which these five populations lived.
