In order to contribute to the understanding and control of Diabetes Mellitus Type 2, it is presented here an analysis about why this disease can’t be controlled despite knowledge and technology advances. This paper presents a conceptual reflection about the importance of the consideration of a ‘diabetic patient culture’; of the integration of diabetes biological and cultural aspects and of a multidisciplinary approach when caring for this disease within health institutions. The underlying assumption for this analysis is that to efficiently control Diabetes Mellitus Type Two, the cultural aspects of this disease should be considered as much as its biological aspects. Empirical evidence to support this analysis was obtained from diabetic population in Nezahualcóyotl City in México.
