Abstract

This study compares mortality rates of Mexico and the United States as means to show the efficiency of both national health systems. It is a cross-national study analyzing data from 1999. The most important findings about properties of mortality rates are described and the interrelations among these properties are identified for both countries. Finally, the impact of such interrelations on the national population's health is evaluated. It is advocated that this research may help to understand national health systems and developing efficient health policies.
