Abstract

The structural adjustment processes of Mexican economy have increased the unemployment, poverty and unequal income distribution. The medium and lower income households develop different strategies in order to ensure their social reproduction facing the adverse context and their deteriorating Iiving conditions. In this research the relationships between familiar life strategies in the household and the prevalence of stunting preschool children are explored. A cross-sectional epidemiological survey design was chosen to review several Iife strategies that hypothetically have relation with stunting on a group of 212 five to six years boys and girls in two schools of Chimalhuacan, Estado de Mexico. Results: the following life strategies influence on stunting preschool children’s weekly food consumption and household head's employment and progressive indebt.
