Abstract

The Latin American Social Medicine is a field of the knowledge that studies the health-disease of the populations from a social perspective. Its development in national nucleus allows to identify to Mexico like formation, production and diffusion center of knowledge in field. Objectives: To identify the interest subjects, methodologies and techniques by means of the characterization of these of Social Medicine Masters of the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana. Method: A data base was created that registered theses, categorization of their thematics, study population, methodology, techniques and instruments: according to their Objectives, they were classified developing: theoretical- methodologic or generation of empirical evidence; by means of the analysis of frequencies tendencies in the time were identified. Results: More frequent subjects: theoretical-methodological problems, formation of professionals, epidemiology, policies and formation of professionals. Emergent subjects: gender, HIV-AIDS and violence. Subjects non-boarded: atmosphere, natural disasters or discapacity. The empirical exploration predominates although frequently, they are made on secondary sources. Population groups more studied: labor. The qualitative methodology predominates although. mainly, it is about analysis on data of secondary sources. Conclusions: The Social Medicine in Mexico has reached an important conceptual development and an alternative explanatory frame. it has boarded important sanitary problems and has documented the inequality in health; but there are subjects of current relevance without approaching Its is required to generate greater empirical evidences with primary sources that fortify their premises; it has privileged the qualitative methodology with plot analyses and interviews, the use of the other qualitative techniques is scarce, to include them can contribute to the consolidation of the field
