Factores asociados a la violencia de pareja, en universitarias del área de la salud del estado de Guerrero, México

Partner’s violence against women is an important health care issue. It is also a human rights and social justice topic because of its frequency and consequences on women’s health. This phenomenon is a consequence of the longstanding unequal relationships among men and women. The grounds should be identified within the society’s structure. Furthermore, there are social and cultural factors that make invisible this kind violence towards women. The objective of this paper is to estimate the prevalence of partner’s violence and identifiy associations with sociodemographic, epidemiologic and scholar factors among health sciences female college students in the state of Guerrero, México. We conducted a survey, which was self-applied, in health sciences college female students in the period from 2013 to 2014. The sample was randomized, by conglomerates and proportional to the size of each school. We worked with a confidence level of 95% and there was a non-response proportion of 15%. We performed a bivariate analysis to demonstrate associations and we also constructed a multiple logistic regression model. The prevalence of partner’s violence was 37.5%, higher than the national average for the age group from 15 to 24 years, which is 31.1%. The following factors were associated: moderate alcohol consumption, drugs consumption, traces of depression, family violence and low self-esteem.
