Atención de salud en los centros de cumplimiento penitenciario: un desafío pendiente para la salud pública en las provincias de San Felipe y los Andes

Abstract: Public health must look after a comprehensive and a quality care, using a inclusion judgment to all people. Previous documentaries of Inter-American Comisión on Human Rights point out the Chilean jail system is lacked of “good health and specialized medical attention. Study purpose: To analyse valuations and conditions for health and illness assistance, according to professionals, interns and public servants from Prisons of San Felipe and Los Andes in 2014. Material and Methods: Cualitative study carried out by observation, semi-structured interviews and focus groups that were applied to interns, public sevants and professionals related to Health Care. Results: Both prisons have a Nursing Unite, the health attention is carried out by a spontaneuos request. Paramedics are the frontal figures of the assistance process. The doctor has few hours of service and he or she has the faculty of deriving. In order to resolve the urgencies, the decision depends on the public servant on duty. Conclusion: Servants and professionals have a positive evaluation in medical process and in the conditions of this. Their accounts are contrasted to the expression made by the interns, who demand a timely and human service. The future challenges are to specify actions related to the promotion the heath and the approach of mental health.
