In order to identify and measure social inequalities in health in Mexico, mortality rates were calculated and standardized for the main diseases of each of the epidemiological groups in 2446 municipalities of the country organized into 10 groups according to the percentage of people in a situation of poverty. The municipalities also was categorized if they have a population above or below 250 thousand inhabitants, based on information from the National Assessment Council (CONEVAL) and the mortality database of the Health Secretry. In turn, the diabetes prevalence, measures of surveillance and control and complications by socioeconomic level quintiles were calculated based on the 2016 National Health and Nutrition Survey.
