De Salud para Todos a Salud Universal: Cómo concretar el derecho a la protección a la salud
Abstract
Despite the fact that countries indicators and health conditions have improved, deep inequities persist and new problems have surfaced. Several of these new problems are related to structural injustices that underlie in our societies. Considering this, a Strategy for Universal Access to Health and Universal Health Coverage (now called “Universal Healthâ€), has been defined in the Americas. The Strategy’s objective is not different from the goals set in Alma Ata to achieve “health for allâ€. What has changed is the context in which this goal is to be accomplished. This new Strategy attempts to addressed this situation and; at the same time, it takes into consideration the debates on social policies and development models since health cannot be understood and analyzed independently. This enssay reflects on crucial aspects in public policies so that Universal Health can effectively contribute to the realization of the right to health.
