Abstract

This paper summarizes the rationale behind the reconfiguration of health policy in Mexico, in the light of productive and sociopolitical transformations, as a result of the adoption of a neoliberal project. It also illustrates the deterioration of health and living conditions of vast numbers of people, provides evidence for the failures of the Mexican health system, and discloses the potential risks of the current government administration’s position on the implementation of a market-oriented health care model that, in turn, contravenes the right to health.
