Abstract

The present enssay identifies and argues the relation between the war on drugs in Mexico and the effects on the health and welfare of the Mexican population. The “epidemic of violence†that has emerged as a result of this war has given rise to notable booms in homicides, injuries and other serious impacts on health in cities where the failed strategies of the Mexican government have had the greatest impact. Like contagious diseases, violence is prone to attack the most vulnerable populations who are at greater risk of being affected to their health. Likewise, violence is exercised with the objective of silencing complaints and claims of truth and justice by relatives of the victims. After years of maintaining a strategy with highly negative results, the effectiveness of drug prohibition and the policy of militarization militarization is questioned.
