Abstract

Violence is one of the main problems in Mexico; In terms of health, the risks and damages it causes are the main rates of morbidity and mortality. As a field of scientific knowledge, Social Medicine postulates that the collective health-disease process is socially determined and distributed in a differentiated way. The present analysis proposes some conceptual categories and seeks to establish relationships between them to contribute to the understanding of violence as a structural phenomenon and to develop an argumentative line on the social determination of some health problems such as male overmortality and the influence of the model of hegemonic masculinity in the context of the neoliberal phase of capitalism which, by its very nature, exacerbates these problems.
