Abstract

Privatization pathways of the Mexican “Popular Health Insurance” with a minimal package of interventions oriented to provide health care to poor families, this program was launched in 2004. Affiliation is on a voluntary basis. Funding is both federal and state-based, whith a beneficiary fee depending on socioeconomic status. However, the heterogeneus public health care infrastructure has limited the posibility to deliver the interventions and/or the adecuate supply of medication. This situation has both increased health care services subcontracting and the transfer of public funds to private agencies
